UK Climber’s Mountaineering Training in the Himalayas with ADA

Blogs

When it comes to mountaineering training in the Himalayas, few experiences compare to the rugged, snow-covered peaks of India. UK climber Oliver J. Fall took on this challenge after 15 years away from the mountains. His high-altitude training with Ascent Descent Adventures (ADA) was both tough and exhilarating. In his own words, the experience was “tough but absolutely incredible.

Reintroducing Mountaineering After 15 Years

Oliver had not engaged in serious mountaineering for over a decade and a half. However, his passion for the mountains led him to India, where he (UK climber) embarked on an intensive mountaineering training program with ADA. Led by seasoned guide Pankaj Lagwal, the training aimed to refresh and enhance his climbing skills in the Himalayas.

The reintroduction that Pankaj has provided into mountaineering has been awesome,” Oliver shared. With a structured two-week program based in Manali and the surrounding peaks, including Mount Shitidhar, he immersed himself in the art of climbing once again.

A Training Experience Like No Other

The program included 10 days in the field, covering technical skills, endurance training, and real-time climbing challenges. “We’ve endured a hell of a lot of snow, done a lot of climbing, and engaged in a significant amount of technical work,” Oliver recalled. Despite the physically demanding nature of the course, the experience proved to be immensely rewarding.

The combination of expert guidance, well-planned training modules, and real alpine conditions provided Oliver with a comprehensive learning experience. He particularly appreciated the camaraderie and humor shared among fellow climbers, which played a vital role in keeping spirits high. “The sense of humor has been incredible, which you always need on such trips,” he noted.

The Reality of Living in the Mountains

While the UK climber mountaineering training in the Himalayas was rigorous, Oliver recognized that the challenges were part of what made it authentic. “The conditions in which we’ve all had to live have been tiring at times, but that is the nature of mountaineering. In that sense, it has been brilliant,” he explained.

Despite the exhaustion, the demanding conditions only added to the sense of accomplishment. Oliver may have left the mountains with a clean-shaven face, but he also carried with him invaluable skills, renewed confidence, and unforgettable memories of his adventure with ADA.
